Windows Search service: Not using the index on network drives searches
Is the search from file explorer's search bar, or the search box (by default) on the task bar (or via Win key + s)? If the location of such files is a common factor, try observing the number of files indexed in the applicable index, then add one more similar file and see if the number of files indexed increments.

Network share requesting password, but password protection turned off ...
Password protected sharing is turned off on each system (in "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings"). Each of the desktop systems can access each other's shared and also the laptop's shared partition.
